Blog Post #20: My Thoughts on Exit Through the Gift Shop
Exit Through the Gift Shop was an interesting trip, and some of the questions it raised about the public's definition of art as well as the conspiracies it sparked regarding the identities of street artist Banksy and filmographer Thierry certainly made me consider street art in a new light. As to whether or not I thought Thierry should be considered an artist, I think that Thierry created art under the definition of art that he had developed in his mind after following Banksy and the other street artists he filmed. Street art is something that on the cover can seem random and chaotic but holds a deeper, and typically much darker meaning. It's rebellious yet insightful and that is what Thierry seemed to try and emulate for his own art show and if people really did love it I think that's really what matters in the end.
